Happy October!!

Anyone who knows me will know that I read After when it used to be a Wattpad creation and we would be waiting for the next chapter to come out but after watching the Netflix movie based on After, I decided to go out and buy the book and give it any other read. After finishing this book again I thought it deserved a little mention.

I love this novel for many reasons but mainly due to the sheer amount of references to classic literature that it makes. You cannot fail to admit that Tessa is that strong feminist character we all love to read about but I love that she is shown to be strong because of her knowledge and the power of being good at what she does. Although, her relationship with Hardin (the bad boy) does not start in the most conventional way you cannot help but fall in love with them. Even if it is just falling in love with getting to know them individually. The story does not exactly have a happy ending but it does have a great message of sometimes just sometimes it takes the right person to come along and prove that you are capable of change. Now do not get me wrong I am not saying you should change because of a person just that sometimes being around a person can make you realise that there are certain parts of you that you prefer when you are around them.

Tessa gets Hardin to face some home truths that he does not necessarily want to deal with but he does and it shows how much a person can truly change if they really wanted to.

Although the relationship is not quite what you thought it was and there are some dramatic twists, in the end, it really is hard not to route for them to sort themselves out. Anna Todd writes in such a way that it makes you fall in love with the characters individually as much as you love them together.

I know this book and film have a lot of mixed opinions but if you haven’t read it yet try and read it with an open mind.

If you have read the novel, what did you think?

Love Always,

Gee xo
