Synopsis:
Azure ‘Azzy’ Brimvine lives in a world decimated by magic, where humans have retreated underground from the overwhelming dangers of the surface. But Below is no safer than Above.

Magic borne plagues continue to eat away at the remaining human cities, a sickness that doesn’t merely kill, but creates aberrations from the stricken: people twisted by magic into something dark, dangerous, and powerful. It is an existence of fear and constant dread. When Azzy’s brother, Armin, is infected and cast out into the Above, she sets out after him, determined to be there for him no matter what he becomes.

The world Above is full of monsters, both wild and cunning, some more human than Azzy was led to believe. Armin is captured and bound for the Auction block of Avergard, a ruthless city of inhuman lords and twisted creatures. To reach him, Azzy must brave the perils of the Above and the chaotic life forms created by the Gate. To reach him, she must find allies and forge new bonds in this broken world.

And Azzy must reach him, before Armin’s new power is used to open the Gate once more.

My Review:

This is one that I was very excited to start reading the moment the opportunity arose the book cover looked so pretty and everyone knows that any book that has some reference to magic is going to be one that should be right up my street. WOW! How right I was.

Marrow Charm by Kristin Jacques is the first book in The Gate Cycle series. The book follows the story of Azzy who lives in the world Below with her brother Armin and their guardian, but their lives are quickly derailed when the Rot infects everyone, and her family is cast out to the world Above. Her brother and guardian face an uncertain and terrifying future at auction when they’re carted away by the Snatchers. This means that alone Azzy must face the dangers of Above if she has any chance of saving her family. Along the way she discovers that actually the differences between the humans and the monsters are not as different as she once thought. Which is worse? That is something that she cannot quite work out.

Marrow Charm has such an incredible vibe whilst you are reading it, the atmosphere created in the world built in this book by Kristin Jacques is one of my favourite parts of the novel.

I like how it is not all like the magic we have read about in so many books this focuses a little more on the negatives of the magic. I think this makes it more attractive to the reader as you do not know what to expect. I am very much looking forward to reading the rest of her journey.

I loved getting to read this novel and it in fact became my second five star review of 2021 so far. It is not very often that I give a five star review but 2021 is out here bringing some amazing reads.

Star Rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Does this book sound like something you would like to read?

Love Always,

Gee xoxo
