With Spring just around the corner I am very excited to say that we have a guest post to get us in the mood for Spring. The wonderful Bee of Mind.Beauty.Simplicity Blog has kindly written a post for us. If you are new you will not know this but I am a little obsessed with their blog so it is incredible to be able to have them guest post. Working with them has been the most amazing experience.
Ah spring, the quintessential time to get your life & space in order for the new season. Goodbye to the cold, dark shades of winter & hello to warm, bright colours of spring! Today, I wanted to share with you 5 Spring Cleaning Hacks According to a Minimalist
So yes, if you are new to me & my writing, I’ve been a minimalist for 5 years now. And honestly, minimalism changed everything about my life. And I think with living with less, I’ve mastered the art of cleaning a space. And it’s such a wonderful feeling to start fresh.
REVAMP YOUR WARDROBE
I love starting with my closet because each season begins with a shift in fashion. I love to go through & evaluate what I have, what no longer works & what replacements I may need. Recently, I did a full blown purge of my wardrobe & removed bags & bags full of items. It was quite liberating. I usually take everything completely out of my drawers or closet spaces & try on every single item. It might sound tedious, but it really helps you honestly see what works & what doesn’t. And once everything is back in your spaces all organized, you’ll be glad you did it.
When cleaning your house it can seem like a rather daunting task. But if you focus on one room at a time, it will not seem as stressful. Always remember it’s not a sprint. You want to clean your house well instead of being rushed. I always go through each space & see what I can get rid of first. Why clean something, if you are going to throw it out anyway, right? Once all the junk is cleared, I take a multi surface cleaner & wipe off any surfaces. Keep in mind, if there are any future pieces you are down with & not serving a purpose, feel free to donate those items.
YOU DON’T NEED A TON OF PRODUCTS
You know all the fancy cleaning products they sell? You don’t need all of them! I simply use a multi surface cleaner, Windex & a vacuum. We actually were gifted the Roomba for Christmas & it’s a game changer! A lot of cleaners are rather toxic for yourself, your children & pets. So, why have more than what you need? I’ve been trying to replace most of my cleaning products with sustainable alternatives as well. Baby steps.
DECLUTTER YOUR DIGITAL SPACE
I feel like because we can’t literally see digital clutter as well as physical household items, we tend to ignore it. But I’m here to tell you to go through your digital space as well. Clear out your contacts in your phone, delete old emails, unsubscribe from online stores & unfollow anyone on social media that isn’t inspiring or making you happy. You don’t realize how these platforms can affect your overall well being, so cleaning house of these places is so important.
REFLECT ON YOUR FUTURE SELF
I think the most important part of going into a new season, especially spring, is to take the time to write down your goals & aspirations. Who do you wish to be this month or the months going forward? What changes do you want to make? What habits do you want to break? This is a perfect time to journal about these actions of self growth. Each day is a new beginning. Here’s to a fresh start.
