Synopsis:

From bestselling YA rom-com queen Becky Albertalli (author of Love, Simon) comes a new novel about daring to step out of the shadows and into the spotlight in love, life and theatre.

[PRINCIPAL CAST LIST]
Kate Garfield
Anderson Walker

Best friends, and contrary to popular belief, not co-dependent. Examples:

Carpooling to and from theatre rehearsals? Environmentally sound and efficient.
Consulting each other on every single life decision? Basic good judgment.
Pining for the same guys from afar? Shared crushes are more fun anyway.

But when Kate and Andy’s latest long-distance crush shows up at their school, everything goes off-script.

Enter Stage Left: Matt Olsson

He is talented and sweet, and Kate likes him. She really likes him. The only problem? So does Anderson.

Turns out, communal crushes aren’t so fun when real feelings are involved. This one might even bring the curtains down on Kate and Anderson’s friendship…

My Review:

If you know me well you will know there are certain things I love in life… Theatre, Books and stories of love just happen to be some of those. As soon as I saw the synopsis of this book I knew I had to read it. I was not wrong! There is so much I want to talk about but as always we are going to try to avoid spoilers so somethings will just have to wait.

Firstly I loved all the theatrical references and all the references to the different theatre shows through out. Within one of the first chapters the drama teacher is mentioned and it had me laughing to myself on the bus because I immediately had my drama teacher in my head, who was just one of my favourite people in the whole entire world. From that moment I had a strong suspicion I was going to love this book.

As always I am going to try to avoid spoiling anything but the friendship between Kate and Anderson ended up being one of the things I loved most about this book. I think that it was because in some aspects it took me right back to high school and the memories of people I am no longer friends with. However to be truthful we never dealt with communal crushes as well as these two beautiful humans.

From the beginning I had a sneaky feeling I was going to be a fan of the duo. Friendship is a huge theme in this book and one of the reasons I loved it so much.

Another theme that unlike the friendship had me a little worried was the idea of them having a communal crush. If I am honest I was so so worried that this was going to blow up in their faces. (we have all been there… maybe just me) but I loved how the relationships turned out and I finished the book with a sense of relief and love for all the characters which I did not expect to happen. If I am truthful I did not expect to like their crush but hey turns out Matt wins my vote of how lovely he comes across.

I adore Becky Albertalli as an author and I was not disappointed this time round either. Kate in waiting is a brilliantly easy read that I know I will be reaching for again.

Star Rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Have you read this yet? What did you think? Is it one you would read?

Love Always,

Gee xoxo
