Guest Post : Simple Steps for Preventing Career Burnout and Thriving in Life:

Most individuals in the workforce face burnout at some point in their careers. Not only can burning out lead to severe consequences for your productivity and engagement at work, but it can also harm your overall health and well-being. The key is to organize your life in a way that allows you to accomplish your goals each day while also fostering your wellness.

We know, it’s easier said than done! This article provides some practical tips for any admin assistants out there who need less stress and more structure in their day:

Put it on the calendar.

As an admin professional, it can be easy to forget about your own priorities while you’re helping an organization run smoothly. But if you want to avoid burnout and stay engaged in your work and personal life, you must create a schedule that works for you. Your schedule should allow you to get all of your work tasks done without leaving your personal commitments out of the balance.

Take your breaks seriously.

Unless you are superhuman, your mind needs a break from work. And you are probably not going to get breaks unless you schedule them into your day. Take a breather for a few minutes at least every 90 minutes during your workday, and enjoy a meal break for at least 30 minutes. Also, make the most of your weekends (or whatever other days you have off) by planning something enjoyable for yourself or with the most important people in your life.

Embrace exercise.

Nothing can burn off stress quite like exercising. Find a physical activity you enjoy and try to do it 30 minutes a day, five days a week. It could be playing a recreational sport from your childhood, running through the neighborhood, using the elliptical at the gym, cycling through town, or trying out different HIIT workouts at home or at the park. Just commit to trying new activities until you land on something that you can stick to for the long haul. One way to stay motivated in your fitness routine is to invest in a smartwatch, which can help you track your activity and keep you safe and healthy during movements.

Eat for nutrition.

It is easy to eat unhealthy when you are busy. But going through the drive-thru is a bad habit that can have detrimental effects on your health and well-being. Consider replacing some of your meals with healthier alternatives. A diet based on fruits, veggies, lean proteins, whole grains, and nuts can go a long way in improving your all-around health and giving you more energy for the day.

Sleep at least seven hours.

This is another habit that can be difficult to maintain as a busy admin assistant. But it is a must if you are going to prevent burnout. Adults need seven to nine hours each night to function at full capacity. So, come up with a bedtime routine that helps your mind and body wind down. Try reading a print book, decluttering to relieve tension, taking a hot bath, doing light yoga stretches, or anything else that prepares you for a restful night of sleep.

Unplug from technology.

Much of your work probably revolves around technology, and it’s impossible to ignore the role technology plays in our personal lives. Every chance you get, do things that don’t involve a screen. Go hiking with loved ones and leave your phone in the car. Enjoy a backyard camping experience with s’mores, ghost stories, and stargazing. Make a rule that you will not use electronic devices during the hour leading up to bedtime; consequently, this can also improve your sleep!

Even if you enjoy your job, working as an admin assistant can quickly lead to burnout unless you take steps to prevent it. Schedule both your work and personal priorities, and take breaks throughout each day and week. Develop a fitness routine that works for you, and try to stick to a healthy diet. Lastly, be sure to get plenty of sleep, and look for activities that you can do that don’t involve technology.

What is your top tip for stopping burn out?

I hope you enjoyed this guest post.

Love Always,

Gee xoxo
